From Mother,
to Daughter
One of my favorite parts of creating custom dresses is being able to tell a story with that piece of clothing. So, as you could imagine, when I was asked to recreate a mother’s wedding gown from the 80’s, it was a dream come true.
Not only is the original dress gorgeous in every way, but it also told a story of it’s own as I began to deconstruct. As I carefully ripped apart the seams, the history of the gown began to unfold. I saw details such as where her mother had the dress altered, to markings of all the beautiful, hand-stitched details that elevated this dress in it’s time.
It was then time to reimagine what this beautiful gown could be for our new bride! This is to be worn at her rehersal dinner, so she requested a 2 piece set that was modern, sleek and made the corset the star of the show.
From there, I reconstructed the bodice and added a full corseted lining, a lace up back, and repositioned the appliques and beading to decorate the neckline.
For the skirt we went with a simple, satin, A-line silhouette. A perfect mix of modern meets vintage when paired with it’s corseted counterpart.
I absolutely loved collaborating with the bride and bringing this design to life! It’s such a beautiful tribute to her mother and an unforgettable way to carry this family heirloom into the next generation. <3
